I have decided to go back to school and conduct more research with machine learning and apply these techniques within sports analytics. I was extremely interested in this research during my capstone project in my final year, so I contacted my capstone supervisor to see if he wanted to have me continue with my research. Fortunately, he accepted.
The topic of sports analytics is broad and is relatively new, in regards to the applications of machine learning used. With the expansion of available data and the detail that comes with it, new revelations are being made. I am excited to see if the NBA gives public access back to their movment data. So many advnaced statistics have come from these new datasets. I hope to explore new player and team assessment metrics while I conduct research. I would also like to get into deep learning applications using imagery from different sensors (SportVU).
