Filming During the Summer

After graduating in the spring, I worked at 360Insights over the summer. The work was good and all, but the best part about summer work is that I have the time in the evening to go out and film.

I bought a Sony VX1000 at the start of the summer. This camera and the MK1 fisheye lense with it creates the best camera for skateboarding that ever existed. The colours are gorgeous. The sound is so crisp that a lot of skaters can recognize the camera used in footage without seeing any visuals. The MK1 fisheye is perfect for skateboarding. Because the VX1000 is so cheap, I can find replacement parts very easy too. I also started to experiment with Super 8 cameras in some of the later footage. The personality shots compliment the skating so well and give a warm feel to the montages. I have plans to start using Hi8 camera footage too next summer. Hi8 tapes are a lot cheaper than Super 8 film and a ton cheaper to process.

Skateboarding and filming go hand in hand for me. I cannot have one without the other. The footage I got with my friends was some of the best footage I've ever got. I loved travelling around Ontario during the trips and finding obscure skate spots that a lot of people in Oshawa have never seen before. I made great friends that I will hopefully continue to film with next summer.
